FORT SMITH (KFSM)- Soon patients will recieve care from a new $42 million Mercy Orthopedic Hospital. It's set to open Friday (Oct.3) in Fort Smith. The new hospital is located at the corner of 79th Street and Phoenix. Next week, patients will be able to recieve care from the hospital.
Construction started back in September 2011 on the facility. The two-story hospital is attached to the already existing surgery center. Ten orthopedic surgeons will be on staff. The new facility includes everything from screening areas to rehab care in order to help patients get back on their feet faster.
The first floor is offering a a rehab center with a therapy pool, screening area, surgery waiting area, and a cafe open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Then on the second floor, people will find 24 patient rooms, a chapel, and many waiting areas for families.
Dr. Greg Jones said he is excited to have everything in one place. "The hospital will allow us with this care so that's why people don't have to go to Tulsa, Oklahoma City, or Little Rock," said Dr. Jones.
The same patients will be coming in, however just at a new facility. "Those follks who have worn out joints with their knees, hips, and shoulders,"said Dr. Jones.
According to Dr. Jones, this facility will help patients get the care they need faster. " We have total joint replacement in an efficient process that separates them away to anyone who is sick,"said Jones. "Everyone in this facility is geared up to have a speedy recovery."
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the hospital is Friday (Oct.3) at noon. People are welcome to take hospital tours from 2:00-6:00 p.m. The Mercy Orthopedic Hospital is set to bring 100 new jobs to the area.
