PAWNEE, Okla. (KFSM) – The U.S. Geological Survey has upgraded Saturday’s (Sept. 3) earthquake to a magnitude 5.8, making it Oklahoma’s largest recorded earthquake in the state’s history.
The revision comes after more in-depth analysis of the seismic recordings, according to the USGS. The magnitude was revised after the department further studied the seismic recordings during and after the quake on Saturday.
The earthquake was felt throughout the region just after 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Many residents said they felt their house shake for several seconds. People in Tennessee, Texas and Iowa are also said they felt tremors.
On Tuesday (Sept. 6), the USGS confirmed that the Pawnee earthquake was the largest in the state’s history, topping the 2011 earthquake in Prague, Oklahoma which was also readjusted to a 5.7 magnitude from a 5.6.
