BENTONVILLE (KFSM) - A principal has been selected for the new Bentonville West High School scheduled to open in fall 2016, according to a spokesman for the Bentonville School District.
Jonathon Guthrie is currently the principal at Lincoln Junior High, but starting in July of this year, he will begin preparing to take on the role of principal of Bentonville West.
"We want to make sure we get this right, when we open Bentonville West it has to be right, we have a fantastic high school here, we have a great school district and Bentonville West cannot be the little brother, it's gotta be excellent just like Bentonville High School is on day one, and that is a huge challenge," Guthrie said.
Guthrie has worked for Bentonville Schools since 2006. He said one of the most important aspects of starting a new school is the staffing.
"Great teachers make great schools, studies show it's all about the teachers and then obviously about the students but for me it's about getting the right teachers in place," Guthrie said.
He said he does have a message for the parents of his future students.
"This is your building, it's your school, we're going to work together, we all have the same goal here which is when those students leave Bentonville West High School, and when they graduate we want them to be able to walk into any college, any work place and be ready to roll," Guthrie said.
