Property Seized During Drug Bust Handed Over to Sheriff’s Office

It’s been described as one of the largest property seizures in Benton County. Monday the sheriff’s office revealed some of the guns, motorcycles, and boating equipment that once belonged to an alleged drug dealer. Now it’s up to the sheriff’s office to decide what to do with it.

According to Capt. Mike Sydoriak they began their investigation against Derek Fitch back in 2008. Fitch was arrested on drug charges two years later. At that time they confiscated a large amount of property.

Once out of jail, Fitch resumed his drug dealing operation, police say. He was arrested in 2011 and more property was seized. Fitch is being held without bond in the Benton County jail on multiple charges of delivery of a controlled substance, and possession.

Now, thanks to a court decision, it all belongs to the sheriff’s office. Some of it may be sold, which will allow deputies to avoid using their general funds, Capt. Sydoriak says.

Capt. Sydoriak says it’s one of the largest property seizures he’s seen in his more than 30 years with the sheriff’s office. The property included items such as a waverunner, a boat, a Hummer, and motorcycles modified for speed.
