FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- The Salvation Army of Northwest Arkansas will place angel trees in several locations to help about 3,000 children in need this holiday season.
The Salvation Army will hold a ceremony at the Northwest Arkansas Mall with special guest Miss Arkansas USA Leah Blefko.
Major N.J. Pope said to participate, choose an angel from the tree and bring unwrapped gifts.
"The importance of this is that every angel on the tree represents a real child that has applied," Pope said. "We have the wish list that they have given us and that child is looking for hope from us for Christmas Day."
Pope said there will be an angel tree at the Northwest Arkansas Mall and at each Walmart.
"Families are struggling," Pope said. "They have a hard time economically throughout the year, but when it comes to Christmas time and they don’t have the funds to go out and take care of their children for Christmas that’s an extremely hard time."
"They turn to us and other agencies for that assistance to be able to do that,” he said.
