FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The new logo for the Southside Mavericks was revealed over the weekend.
The final design was unveiled Saturday (Jan. 30) by Southside High School principal Wayne Haver.
The mascot committee decided on the logo to represent the school’s new mascot on Nov. 2, 2015, but they wanted to add slight modifications from the original design.
The logo belonged to a man in California, Mark Verlander of Verlander Designs, who created the design for the Dallas Desperados AFL team. Verlander gave Southside full rights to the logo, and also made the alterations to the logo for free.
The mascot committee voted to replace the former mascot, the “Rebels,” on Oct. 12, 2015.
