SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — The Springdale Police Department will be expanding their Sandlot summer program to help provide food and activities for children during the summer.
The department announced they were recipients of a grant from the Walmart Foundation on Thursday (June 23), according to a press release. The program partners with the Springdale School District’s Free Lunch Program.
During the program, children play games and sports and complete community service projects with officers. With the grant, the Sandlot will be able to give children breakfast during the week and send them home with food over the weekend, as well as give them additional activities.
Officers hope to be positive mentors for children and to help improve the quality of life in Springdale, the release states.
