SPRINGDALE (KFSM) -- The 74th Rodeo of the Ozarks  ended Saturday (June 30), but there may be more activity at the stadium where the rodeo took place.

They are wanting to put a roof over the arena at Parsons Stadium, so the venue can be used rain or shine for events such as soccer and concerts.

They also want to put in a concrete floor and renovate the restrooms and concessions.

“When you put a roof on it, then you expand the availability of what you can do with it, we can do concerts, we can do indoor soccer,” Steven Smith said.

Rodeo of the Ozarks board member Steven Smith said the entire project will cost $10 million with the roof being the most expensive part. He said they would do the improvements in stages.

“There is a lot of people who would schedule to have and event at our stadium that needs the space, needs the seating but they are afraid to do it because if it rains they lose all their investment. So, if you have a roof over it you don`t have to worry about rainouts,” he said.

Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse said these improvements would be a great revenue generating addition to the city.

“It being part of our downtown, within our downtown master planned area, to have a year-round arena within that master planned area that`s even better for our downtown and the revitalization of downtown,” he said.

There isn`t a timeline yet for when construction will begin. They are still in the process of lining up donors to fund the project.
