VAN BUREN (KFSM) - One man has been arrested after authorities say he engaged them in a standoff at a home at 2304 Durango Drive Friday (Aug. 29) morning.

Daniel Yates Franklin, 59, was booked into the Crawford County Detention Center and faces charges of first-degree terroristic threatening, aggravated assault and third-degree domestic battery, according to authorities.

The call came in Thursday around 11:00 p.m. (Aug. 28) as a possible domestic battery at a home in the Legacy Heights neighborhood, according to Lt. Stephen Staggs with the Van Buren Police Department.

"The normal response to domestic battery is to send at least two cars, even with or without formal charges," Lt. Staggs said.

Authorities say the man barricaded himself inside the home, armed with a gun. The Van Buren SWAT team was called in, authorities said. After negotiations, police were able to arrest the man.

"Negotiations continued through the night to get his peaceful release," Lt Staggs said.

No one was injured. Police say at one point authorities on scene had to release teargas.

The neighbors next door declined to give us their name or show their face on camera, but they say the man and his wife are upstanding citizens in the community.

"They’re the nicest people that you would ever want for neighbors, never a problem," a neighbor said. "They’re always there to help you if you need anything. I’ve lived here next to them since 2008."

They said they were shocked to be woken up to police knocking on their door telling them to evacuate their home at 7 a.m.

Franklin's bond has been set at $150,000, according to authorities.
