CHARLESTON (KFSM)- Thousands of people were in Franklin County to watch the Booneville and Charleston high school football teams Friday (Dec. 5) as they fought for a spot at the state championship.

Officials estimated close to 4,000 fans attended the game.

"It's a new rivalry," Booneville coach Scott Hyatt said. "We've scrimmaged these guys for about 15 years it's obviously turned out to be a pretty big rivalry."

The Booneville Bearcats moved to the 3A division this year.

"You can already tell by the amount of tickets we've sold,” Charleston principal Shane Storey said. “We’ve sold 400 advanced tickets it's been steady since Monday people have been coming in here and putting their blankets and chairs down, it's just a huge game."

Fans parked their vehicles as early as Tuesday to make sure they had a spot.
