Tom Selleck is in hot water -- because of water.

The "Magnum, P.I." and "Blue Bloods" star is accused of taking water from a Ventura County, California, water district fire hydrant for use on his ranch.

The Calleguas Municipal Water District filed a complaint against Selleck and his wife, Jillie, that says the couple has stolen water from the district in Thousand Oaks more than a dozen times. The Sellecks' ranch is in a different water district.

Calleguas alleges that the Sellecks have continued to steal water outside their district from a fire hydrant, even after Calleguas sent two cease-and-desist letters, according to its attorneys.

Calleguas hired a private investigator to look into the situation. The complaint asks for about $22,000.

The Selleck ranch is more than 60 acres and includes an avocado farm.

In an era when California is in the midst of a crippling drought and #droughtshaming has become a social-media buzzword, overuse of water is a distinct no-no. There are even apps available to share photos and information about apparent water wasters.

Celebrities aren't immune, with the New York Post singling out Kim Kardashian and Barbra Streisand, among others, for their sizable green lawns.
