SEQUOYAH COUNTY (KFSM) -- The trial for a woman who is accused of leaving a 16-year-old boy in a ditch for hours following an ATV accident began Monday (August 17) in Sequoyah County.
Angela Gray was arrested in August 2014 and is facing several charges, including felony leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Sequoyah County Court Clerk.
Christian Mayberry, who was 16 at the time, was critically injured in September 2013 when an ATV ran off a road near Muldrow, ejecting him 12 feet, according to the sheriff's office. Court documents state he was left in a ditch for hours.
Gray was the second person arrested in the case. Kyle Brannon was arrested in April 2014 after investigators said he cleaned up the wreck by picking up an ice chest and beer. Records also show he moved Mayberry.
The jury for Gray's trial was selected Monday and the testimony portion of the trial began Tuesday (August 18). The jury is comprised of six men and six women.
On Tuesday, they heard testimony from almost a dozen people, including Mayberry's mother and a woman who was 17-years-old at the time of the wreck. She told the jury she was with Brannon and Joey Gray the night of the accident. She said Angela Gray told her she was driving the ATV. The woman also said the wreck happened just after dusk, but the first 911 call wasn't made until more than three hours later.
The jury also heard from an investigator at the time, Eric Helms who collected phone records from Brannon and Joey and Angela Gray. Helms said there were more than 50 phone calls made between the three of them before the 911 call was made from Joey Gray's phone.
Angela Gray's friend also testified. She said the two worked together at the Muldrow School District. The friend said Gray told her Mayberry was driving the ATV.
Prosecutor Michael Ashwartz said he expects both sides of the case to rest their case Wednesday (August 19). Court will resume at 9 a.m., and Christian Mayberry is expected to testify.
