LAKE TENKILLER (KFSM) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it is partially opening some campgrounds at a popular lake just in time for the Fourth of July holiday.

The campgrounds were closed after major flooding this spring.

Chicken Creek, Carter's Landing, Pettit Bay I, Sizemore Area I and Strayhorn Landing campgrounds are partially open, according to Brannan Parrish with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District.

If you're planning to bring your boat, the Highwater boat ramp at Snake Creek is the only ramp run by the Corps that's open on Lake Tenkiller right now. However, the campground at Snake Creek is still closed, according to Parrish.

Cheryl Smith and her family said they're able to go out on the water at Strayhorn Landing Campground without a boat ramp because their boat is in a marina.

“We went out yesterday on the lake and the water is fabulous,” Smith said. “It just feels so refreshing. It's really nice to be out. We don't really have any special plans for the 4th, particularly, but we'll go out on the boat I'm sure and see what's happening out there."

Crews are working to clean up debris, replace electric outlets and other maintenance before the corps re-opens its other campsites, according to Parrish.
