Police arrested a Van Buren man Wednesday after he allegedly killed his girlfriend’s dog named Brownie, by throwing it against a wall.
"We've had him for 12 years," said owner, Stephanie Young. "He's been part of the family and it's just devastating with him gone."
Cody McKay Malone, 20, was arrested on suspicion of felony animal cruelty and booked into the Crawford County Detention Center, according to the Van Buren Police Department.
The dog defecated and urinated on Malone and the couch, after which police said the suspect picked up the dog and threw it against the wall. He then picked up the dog again and threw it into the brick steps in the garage, said Det. Jonathan Wear with Van Buren police.
The dog was rushed to a local animal clinic, but died before it arrived. The terrier mix weighed about 20 pounds.
Malone was cut during the incident and received treatment from medical crews before being arrested, police said.
Officers received the call at 2:20 p.m. and responded to the 1500 block of North 24th Street. When officers arrived, they noticed blood on the ground around Malone’s truck and the garage of the home, Wear said.
Malone was released on a $3,500 bond. His next court date is Nov. 27th at 8a.m.
