VAN BUREN (KFSM)- Rain or shine, the annual Fall Festival is well underway. The event features more than 200 exhibitors with fine artwork, antiques and other collectables on display. It’s put on by the Van Buren Old Town Merchant’s Association.
Quarter Master of the VFW 1322 Matthew Hicks wants people in the community to remember our troops, and he does so by handing out Buddy Poppies.
“For me personally, the last two and a half years, we’ve been coming out at Old Timers Day and Fall Festival and we set up our tent to try to incorporate new veterans,” Hicks said.
Vendors pay Old Town Merchant’s Association $75 to set up at the event. That money helps pay for other events put on by the non-profit organization.
“We use this for paying for the entertainment, and doing the many different things we do through the year,” organizer Lonnie London said. “We do Halloween Christmas and things like that for the city.”
Organizers have donated a parking lot to a local boy scout troop. The $3 you pay to park helps fund their activities throughout the year.
“I think it’s gonna support our troop,” Sawyer Neil, boy scout said. “Support our camp-outs and things we need for our troop.”
The Fall Festival goes until 6 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 11) and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 12).
