FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The Fort Smith school board will vote Monday (July 27) on the use of the mascot and fight song at Southside High School as planned.
Director of Communication and Community Zena Featherston confirmed the vote will remain on the agenda for the board meeting.
Attorney Joey McCutchen had attempted to delay the vote by bringing the case to a judge. McCutchen had said the minutes of the Committee as a Whole meeting on June 23 approved the motion 5-0.
However, a release from the school district stated the approval as 6-0, and so McCutchen said he thought it was a fraudulent vote.
The hearing for the lawsuit has been scheduled for Wednesday (July 27) with Circuit Court Judge James Cox presiding.
The school board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Fort Smith Public Schools Service Center and is open to the public.
