Imagine never having an accident, being rear-ended or landing your car in a ditch. For one Walmart truck driver, he's made it four million miles down the road without anything like that ever happening.
Warren Greeno, a Walmart Private Fleet Driver based out of Loveland, Colo. was honored Saturday morning in Bentonville for being the first driver in the company's history to drive four million consecutive miles accident-free.
"Been fortunate enough to dodge all of the accidents that have come my way," Greeno said.
For the past 31 years, Greeno's driven his truck back and forth across the country, picking up and delivering load after load for Walmart.
"It's an addiction I guess you could say," Greeno said. "You enjoy it or otherwise you wouldn't be out there. Most of us do anyway. But I enjoy it. And there's the freedom."
Greeno was one of several drivers honored for his dedication and service to the company Saturday.
"It's an accomplishment," said Randy Durham, whose logged 3 million safe miles. "It's a team effort. It's not just the miles that I drove but it's the people that back me up and we're all in it together."
Greeno and Durham are two drivers who agree that safety comes first. Especially when they climb behind the wheel and start back down the road.
"As you're driving down the road you can see who is backed by safety and who is not," Greeno said.
As for what's next, Greeno said he'll figure that out somewhere down the road. He said he'd like to make it to 40 years, and maybe 5 million miles before he retires.
Due to his accomplishment, Walmart will be giving Greeno a new red tractor to drive for the rest of his career. It will have both his name and four million miles printed on the side.
