WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) - The chief of staff for Washington County Judge Marilyn Edwards is resigning, officials say.

County officials said Dan Short will resign from his position as chief of staff for Edwards.

Short has served in his position for more than six years, according to his resignation letter. In that same letter he gives two reasons for his resignation. The first reason Short lists is that he feels he is "failing" Edwards and no longer has the ability to provide the assistance she requires as Washington County Judge. The second reason Short cites for his resignation is that he has a number of "personal and medical" concerns, having recently turned 68.

"My wife and I agree that I should spend the time I have remaining in retirement and without the many stresses that this position brings to my health," Short said.
