BENTONVILLE (KFSM) — Construction on the new parking garage at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport will begin soon.
A contractor has been hired to complete a new parking deck, and work on the project will begin in January. The board approved plans for the four-level, 1,400 space parking garage earlier this year.
The project will cost about $35 million, said Kelly Johnson, airport director.
While the new parking garage will expand parking, it will take away short-term parking spaces while the project is under construction.
“We lose half of our short-term parking, that’s one of the reasons why we’ve increased the short-term parking rate,” Johnson said. “The short-term parking rate is going to $24 per 24-hour period. If you’re there for less than 11 hours, you’ll pay $16. If you’re there for more than the 11 hours, you will pay the $24 rate.”
The project should take about 18 months to complete, opening in August 2018.
