Dickson Street parking prices to change amid big projects

The announcement comes a few days after the city approved plans for a new hotel and a new parking deck was opened, adding hundreds of new parking spots.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Starting Monday, Nov. 27, the City of Fayetteville will implement several changes to its parking policies in the Dickson Street entertainment district, including new parking rates.

The announcement comes just a few days after the city approved a new hotel for the area, and the new West Avenue Parking Deck was opened, adding hundreds of new parking spots.

Along with new rates for city-managed on-street, deck, and surface lot parking, the city is converting to a pay-by-license plate system within the entertainment district, going away from the current pay-by-space system.

Also, the city is removing the option to purchase long-term on-street parking; however, “all-day” parking will be available at parking decks and surface lots.

Paid parking hours for core areas, which include stretches of W. Dickson St. and N. West Ave., will now begin at 8 a.m.

New rates (per hour):

  • Sunday:
    • $1, 8 a.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Monday:
    • $1, 8 a.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Tuesday:
    • $1, 8 a.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Wednesday:
    • $1, 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Thursday:
    • $1, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.  — $1.50, 6 p.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Friday:
    • $1, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. — $1.50, 6 p.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Saturday:
    • $1, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. — $1.50, 6 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Free parking hours for secondary on-street areas will be extended from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. so that secondary on-street will be free every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and then $0.50 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Secondary areas include stretches of N. Church Avenue, W. Spring Street., and W. Meadow Street.

Parking Manager Justin Clay said the changes are being made to provide “consistent and convenient parking options that support our thriving downtown and ensure parking availability – for businesses, residents, and visitors.”

The city’s employee discount program and no-cost residential permit program for the entertainment district will remain.
