ARKANSAS, USA — As severe storms pushed through Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley overnight Friday into Saturday morning, they left behind widespread damage and power outages.
5NEWS photojournalist Nicole Hellman captured footage of an overturned camper at Dam Site Lake Campground on Beaver Lake. She spoke with the owners, who said they were having dinner in another camper when theirs overturned. No injuries were reported.
5NEWS reporter Jose Carranza is surveying damage at the Benton County Fairgrounds, where damage was reported during the SOAR Festival late Friday night.
In Bella Vista, police say local agencies are working to assess damage as parts of the Highlands and west part of the city are still without power. While major roadways have been cleared by downed trees, police say there are still "obstructions" on side roads and to be cautious as residents drive around.
Fort Smith Police have issued the following street closures due to severe weather:
6600-7800 Zero Street: not expected to reopen until late this evening: downed and damaged power lines
2800 Country Club: tree blocking roadway
4500 Free Ferry: tree blocking roadway
5800 Kinkead: tree blocking roadway
Additionally, traffic lights across Fort Smith are out, so police are asking drivers to be mindful of all intersections until those can be repaired.
Damage was also reported in Crawford County.
