Police: Armed robbery suspect shoots at Bentonville officer, SWAT makes arrest

The officer was not injured in the shooting, according to officials.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — A Bentonville police officer was shot at while chasing an armed robbery suspect who attempted to flee on Monday, Dec. 2, according to authorities.

According to the Bentonville Police Department (BPD), the armed robbery took place at Murphy USA gas station on SE Walton Blvd. at around 10 p.m.

When police responded to the scene, the suspect allegedly fled the scene on foot. Officials chased after the suspect, who then "fired several rounds" at the officer, according to the release. The officer was not injured, and they lost sight of the suspect during the chase.

The release states Bentonville Police SWAT later found the suspect at a nearby hotel and took him into custody. He was identified as 50-year-old Christopher Szajner.

Szajner is being held at the Benton County Jail pending a bond hearing and is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery, according to BPD.
