FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) said a damaged utility pole led to several power outages and a disabled stoplight at 79th Street and Phoenix Avenue on Aug. 11.

"This is causing delays throughout that portion of the city," FSPD said.

Police asked those traveling in that area to consider alternate routes.

While the damaged utility pole was located at South 66th Street and Jackson Street, it impacted at least 179 nearby businesses and homes around 3 p.m. The outages went down to 141 customers around 4 p.m. They were resolved by 7 p.m.

All the outages are served by Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E).

OG&E said the utility pole was damaged by weather.
