SHADY POINT, Okla. — An Eastern Oklahoma police officer is on administrative leave after allegedly wrecking a patrol car this week, according to the Shady Point Police Department (SPPD).

A report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) said that on June 26 at around 11:20 p.m. Logan Colwell, 31, of Spiro, was traveling westbound, failed to negotiate a curve, and departed the roadway, traveling around 140 feet before coming to a stop.

"An officer with the SPPD was involved in an incident late Wednesday night," said the SPPD in a separate release. "This matter has been turned over to OHP."

The crash occurred on Latham Road west of Blue Goose Road around six miles west of Shady Point in LeFlore County.

OHP said in their report that the condition of the driver and the cause of the collision were under investigation.

SPPD confirms the officer involved in the incident was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Note: Although the Shady Point Police Department statement does not name the officer, it has been connected to Officer Colwell's crash because authorities sent that statement to 5NEWS in response to inquiries about Colwell.

The crash was investigated by OHP and assisted by the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office, Shady Point Police Department, the Panama Police Department, and LeFlore County EMS, according to the report.
