Majority of power restored across western Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma after Wednesday storms

More than 4,000 people were experiencing outages Wednesday.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Thousands are without power on the morning of Wednesday, June 26, as heavy rainfall hit western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

Power Outage US reported nearly 9,000 people experiencing power outages.

According to Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company (OG&E), around 68% of customers who experienced outages due to Wednesday's storms were restored as of 5:30 p.m the same day.

OG&E said Fort Smith was among the hardest-hit cities.

"OG&E crews are still assessing and inspecting damage following the storms, including using a helicopter to assess structures and lines in more rural areas," the electric company said. "Estimated times of restoration will be available after full damage assessments are complete."

As of 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, the majority of power was restored.

For those who are still without power in the summer heat, OG&E has a list of cooling centers on its website
