PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. — A Prairie Grove student was arrested for making a school shooting threat on social media on Thursday, Oct. 3, according to Captain Jeff O'brien with the Prairie Grove Police Department.

The 14-year-old is a student at Prairie Grove Junior High. Police said towards the end of the day, the student posted a photo on Snapchat saying, "I'm going to shoot up this school."

Other students saw the post and reported it, according to police. O'brien said the school resource officer located the student,  interviewed him and his parent and then arrested him.

In the interview, the student alleged he made the post out of boredom. Officials said there is no tolerance for these kinds of threats and they take all threats seriously.

Police confirmed the student had no weapons or apparent means to carry out the threat. The student is in the juvenile detention center facing a felony charge for threatening mass violence on school property.
