Conserve Water Alert lifted for Bentonville residents

On Thursday, April 11, the city informed residents they no longer had to conserve water.

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The City of Bentonville's main 48-inch water collapsed on the evening of April 2 interrupting resident's water service.

While the city worked to repair the water line, they asked Bentonville residents and businesses to conserve water at least until Thursday, April 11.

"We kindly request refraining from activities such as lawn irrigation and heavy washing, including fences and patios, etc.," the city said. "We ask that you postpone any heavy water usage."

City leaders said the line collapse happened when a contractor hit a water line located near the area of Highway 112 and Wallace Road that supplies Bentonville.

When the water line first collapsed, residents and businesses were without water for a brief period. An emergency water connection, which is still serving Bentonville residents, was made with the City of Rogers quickly after the collapse happened.

Director of the Bentonville Water and Utilities System, Mike Bender said there were no concerns of contamination from this incident.

Water line repair

On Wednesday, April 10, the Bentonville Director of Administration, Debbie Griffin confirmed that water could be restored "as soon as Thursday."

Griffin said the water line was repaired, flushed, and loaded with clean drinking water from Beaver Water District. Ten sites along the water line were tested for bacteria.

Water conservation alert ends

On Thursday, April 11, the city informed residents they no longer had to conserve water.

"With the successful completion of the repair work, the Conserve Water Alert has been lifted, and residents and businesses can resume their normal water usage routines," the City said.
