Rogers tornado cleanup continues

The city said they will begin one final complete pass of debris pickup starting Aug. 12.

ROGERS, Ark. — Nearly two months after the Memorial Day weekend tornadoes in Benton County, the City of Rogers is continuing storm debris cleanup efforts.

As of July 19, the City of Rogers has picked up 806,000 cubic yards of storm debris.

Officials say they are hoping to do one last complete pass of debris pickup starting Aug. 12. Ahead of this last sweep, the city advises residents to move any debris to the curb as soon as possible.

Residents are expected to sort debris properly by making distinct piles for vegetative debris and other debris, such as construction material. The city will pick up root balls placed on the curb.

Do not stack debris near utility meters, mailboxes, fire hydrants, or other items that can be hidden by debris. The city asks residents to keep trash and recycling bins away from the storm debris piles.

The city will not pick up any materials removed through insurance.

"Roofing, shingles, or any other construction materials that are the result of repairs made through insurance must be disposed of by the contractor," the city said.

Additionally, only furniture damaged in the storms on May 26 is eligible for curbside pickup. If you are looking to dispose of other furniture, you must schedule a bulk pickup with LRS by calling (479) 878-1384.

There is also an option for residents to drop debris off at the Yard Waste Facility at 2300 N. Arkansas St. It is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Starting Aug. 6, the site will be open Tuesday through Saturday. The yard waste site does not accept construction materials or food waste.

The Benton County Solid Waste at 2307 N. Arkansas St. accepts additional items, such as household hazardous waste and tires. It is open Tuesday through Friday and the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
