ROLAND, Okla. — The Town of Roland in Oklahoma says that its tornado sirens are not working due to lightning damage.
As storms blew through Sequoyah County on May 24, the town took to Facebook to warn residents that the sirens are not functioning due to suspected lightning damage to one of the circuit boards.
"Please monitor the weather closely. The shelter at Roland High School gym is open for your safety," the post said.
The Roland Facebook page later commented that Roland police were sent through neighborhoods warning people that the sirens weren't working as severe weather approached.
"Although we were never under the tornado warning we sent the police department through the neighborhoods to alert people of the potential for severe weather," the Town of Roland commented.
On May 25, the town posted to Facebook that the siren company was working to replace the circuit board and that a test of the sirens will be conducted to ensure proper functioning.
