Arkansas Tech University nursing student fatally shot over weekend

The Russellville Police Department is now investigating after an Arkansas Tech University student died in an apparent accidental shooting on Saturday.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Staff, students, and family at Arkansas Tech University are now mourning the loss of one of their own after they were fatally shot and killed over the weekend.

According to reports, at around 10:40 p.m., Russellville Police Department officers were called to a home in the 400 block of Ashwood with reports of a person who had been shot.

Once the officers got there, they found a male, later identified as 19-year-old Jack Poole, who had tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Police say that they believe the shooting was accidental but the investigation is still ongoing. 

“Arkansas Tech University expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Jack Poole,” said Dr. Russell Jones, ATU president. “There are no words that can adequately bring comfort at a time like this. Our university community will be present and ready to assist in the grieving process for those close to Jack.”

Poole was a sophomore nursing major who studied at ATU.
