'Because we also rescued him, he's just paid it back and rescued me,' Arizona woman says dog alerted her to danger

Do dogs know when their owners are in danger? Rebecca Barcy says hers certainly did.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Rebecca Barcy doesn't go a day with her furry best friend, Jasper, by her side. She's grateful he was right there with her on Tuesday night as severe weather swept through northeast Scottsdale, where her office building is located.

As she exited the room where her office is located, she described the weather outside as "coming and going, like a tornado." When she tried to re-enter her office, Jasper wouldn't budge from the front door.

"He just was like herding me basically away from the door. And so I said to him, okay, so what are what are we doing? We're staying in the hall?" Barcy said to her dog.

Mere seconds later, she remembers hearing a loud noise coming from her office. That's when she found a large roof tile had broken off from the roof adjacent to her office window and came flying through it onto her desk area. Shards of glass are all over her desk and on Jasper's dog bed below it.

"I just felt, honestly, super, super grateful, like super grateful that intuition doesn't lie," Barcy said.

Looking back on those harrowing moments, she can't help but feel like her very own best friend knew a random act of Mother Nature was about to harm her and stopped her before it could happen.

“They have an awareness that we don't have because we're too busy, and so I just think that we should listen to our animals. I think he probably thinks it's his job, but I'm glad it is his job," Barcy said.
