Springdale resident says men claiming to be utility employees tried to enter their home

The department posted on Facebook they are receiving reports of scammers coming to residents' homes and lying about testing their water.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Springdale Water Utilities is warning customers of a possible scam involving people trying to pass as employees to gain access to residents' homes under the guise of testing the purity of their water.

"We had a customer call us and tell us that they had some gentlemen present themselves at her front door to test water," said Chris Clark, Director of Finance for Springdale Water Utilities.

"They said they worked for us. She did refuse them, and she said that they came back at least three times over several days."

Clark said the people who showed up at the door were wearing orange construction vests and were driving a white truck. He urges customers to make sure they work for Springdale Water Utilities through what they're wearing and if they have a badge. If they don't, they're not employed by them

"Our field folks, they have uniforms under their vest that will say 'Springdale', either a t-shirt or a button-down shirt," Clark said. "We have white trucks, but our trucks will have our logo on the sides and on the back."

They posted on Facebook on Oct. 15 saying to residents they will never ask to go in someone's home to test their water.

"There wouldn't be a surprise visit. There would be some kind of communication. Generally, we might knock on the door to let someone know we're doing work outside, but we wouldn't be asking to come inside," said Clark. "We're not going to knock on your door at eight o'clock at night."

The Springdale Police Department said they haven't received reports of any incidents like this yet, but they urge residents to call them if someone suspicious comes to their door.
