FORT SMITH, Ark. — Organizers of the 9th annual Steel Horse Rally, which will be this May, announced the addition of a new motorcycle show called Bikes and Badges on Monday, March 18.
"We came up with a way to tie in the history of the marshals, Fort Smith, and some of the history of motorcycles," Dennis Snow, president and founder of Steel Horse Rally Inc., said.
Bikes and Badges is made possible by partnerships with Fort Smith Harley Davidson and the United States Marshals Museum in Fort Smith.
The partnership will open the museum up for free to the public throughout the event on May 3 and 4.
"We feel that is going to benefit the museum and the city as a whole," Jennifer Seaton-Rambo with the U.S. Marshals Museum said. "It's going to bring guests in from all over, visitors from all over the state and beyond. So we're very excited to have them here."
Snow says the show is dedicated to all that serve and he's especially grateful to the Fort Smith Police Department and the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office.
"Our relationship is absolutely crucial to the success of the Steel Horse Rally. And we're very proud of the fact that we have less arrests during the ... rally weekend with 200,000 plus people than we do on a regular weekend," Snow said. "So we're very proud of our relationship. And I'm sure we'll continue to nurture that well into the future."
As always the rally will benefit local charities. The organizers also revealed this year's beneficiaries on Monday: Buddy Smith Home for Veterans, The Arc for the River Valley, and the Fort Smith Boys and Girls Club.
