Strong winds leave behind damage around Beaver Lake

The Hickory Creek Marina saw significant damage to dozens of boats and the docks.

LOWELL, Ark. — Thursday's severe weather brought significant damage to areas around 5COUNTRY, including the Hickory Creek Marina on Beaver Lake.

The storm left several boats tipped over and some floating away from the dock, as well as significant structural damage to the dock itself.

"We did sustain damage to Dock F. All other docks appear to be ok. We are recovering what boats we can tonight and continue tomorrow. We will reach out to slip holders on Dock F tomorrow. There is currently no power out here. Until we get the power restored, please wait for us to reach out and do not risk your safety," the marina posted on Facebook.

At the nearby campground, Shelly Curtis had just parked her brand-new camper for the first time before the storm hit. She says that the weather caught her off-guard.

"I just came back from Camping World with the title this morning," Curtis said. "I went inside, started putting things away and then all of a sudden I hear loud crashing, popping and my camper going everywhere."

Curtis told 5NEWS that she tried to get to her car but found herself stuck inside the camper.

"I went to open the door. When I did, it just so happened to knock me back," Curtis recalled. "The camper kind of tilted, and everything came crashing down."

The storm left some significant damage on her camper.

"The structure on the whole left side is coming apart. I haven't used my toilet or shower yet. And something busted. It was all wet," Curtis said.

The Hickory Creek Fire Department was on the scene helping respond to the damage.
