Tontitown debuts new fire station

The building is four times the size of the old one, adding necessary space for the growing department.

TONTITOWN, Ark. — On Saturday, Jan. 27, the Tontitown Fire Department is opening the doors of its new fire station to the public for an open house.

The department broke ground on the new station over a year ago.  The building is four times the size of the old one, adding necessary space for the growing department. The old building had been in use since 1978.

“The city felt the need to start staffing full-time personnel. In 2023, they started going with 24-hour day coverage, and the amount of call volume is increasing due to the population,” said Tontitown Fire Chief Ryan Krug. “They've decided we needed to have adequate facility and adequate personnel to cover the citizens.”

On Thursday, Jan. 25, volunteers, city council members and firefighters gathered at the new fire station to start the move-in process by unpacking, stocking the kitchen and organizing.

Krug says there’s still more to be done before the official move-in day, but this is a big step.

The open house will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to show off the new space to the public.

“We're going to have a pastor come in and say a blessing over the over the station, and then it's going to be followed by guest speakers and then we're going to do a ribbon cutting or hose uncoupling to introduce everybody to the station,” Krug said.

The grand opening will feature speakers like Tontitown Mayor Angela Russell, local church leaders, several state senators and Congressman Steve Womack.
