Traffic on I-40 cleared after fatal accident involving 18-wheelers carrying military equipment

Traffic along I-40 has been cleared after it was blocked due to a fatal accident involving 18-wheelers that were carrying military equipment.

ARKANSAS, USA — Update: As of 11:00 a.m., all lanes along I-40 have been reopened following the incident.

On Monday evening, traffic along I-40 eastbound was initially backed up and moving very slowly due to a fatal accident involving three 18-wheelers.

According to reports, the accident happened at mile marker 211 near Brinkley, and eastbound traffic is being detoured off exit 202. Traffic driving westbound is being diverted at exit 216.

ARDOT officials say that three 18-wheelers crashed in the accident, and one of the drivers was pronounced dead as a result of the incident.

Reports also say that one of the trucks was carrying military devices and equipment including explosives which prompted the evacuation of a one-mile radius and a closure of the highway.

On Monday night, the U.S. Department of Defense worked to find an explosive team to help clear the scene safely.
