Humberto Pacheco is now under arrest and faces two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death.

ALMA, Arkansas — Two boys were hit by a vehicle on Highway 64 in Alma Tuesday (June 9) morning.

According to Alma Police Chief Jeff Pointer, the hit-and-run happened on the Highway 64 relief bridge west of the Rudy Road intersection just after 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Pointer says both victims were juvenile boys whose names have not been released at this time.

A driver passing by called for help, according to Pointer. He says it's unknown at this time if the victims were riding or pushing a bicycle.

According to Pointer, an arrest has been made in the deadly hit-and-run.

Humberto Pacheco was brought in for questioning around 5:30 p.m. He is now under arrest and faces two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death.

Pacheco will be booked into the Crawford County Jail tonight, so no photo is available at this time.

The prosecutor will determine if any other charges will be added during an arraignment Wednesday (June 10) morning.

Police were able to track down the suspect with the help of a Crawford County Deputy, who used surveillance video to find the semi-truck involved in the incident parked at a trucking company located on Highway 64 in Van Buren.

Pointer says it's not known why the boys were out so early in the morning, but they are trying to process evidence at this time.

The surviving boy is still in critical condition at a Little Rock hospital.
