FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The United States Postal Service's processing and distribution center is considering making a move out of Northwest Arkansas.
USPS said they are considering making the move based on a study they conducted that recommended keeping the center open but changing it to a local processing center.
The postal services says it's investing to modernize the nation's postal network and keep delivery delays down.
Community members had the opportunity to voice their thoughts on the possible decision at a public meeting at the Fayetteville Public Library on Dec. 6.
Many say they were confused about the language used by USPS and felt they still had not gotten their questions answered.
Steve Clark, president and CEO at the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, said this potential change will could have a major impact on local businesses.
“We've got 4,000 businesses in this city, and every one of them needs to be able to count on our mail delivery system, and needs to make certain that we make it more efficient, and easier to use than more difficult. And any change in the status that we would add would make it more difficult,” Clark said.
USPS says locals' inputs will be considered before making a final decision. You have until Dec. 21 to submit your comments.
