Fort Smith gears up for 31st annual 'Day of Caring,' bringing help to nonprofits

"Your perspective is forever changed whenever you think of others before yourself," said an official with the United Way of Fort Smith.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — One day, 100,000 dollars. That’s the result of the United Way of Fort Smith’s Day of Caring.

"It's great to see how businesses can come together with all their employees, their impact is so great because it touches so many different lives," said Reagan Newell with United Way.

In April 2024, hundreds of volunteers will spend the day at the more than 30 nonprofits that partner with the United Way to celebrate the 31st Day of Caring.

The volunteers will spend the day doing meaningful work that these agencies simply can’t do themselves.

"We have so many nonprofits that look forward to this because they just don't have the manpower. This is a day for the community to step up and be that manpower for them," said Newell.

Newell says it always turns out to be an extraordinary day

"I don't think we can ever explain how grateful these agencies are ... Your perspective is forever changed whenever you think of others before yourself," said Newell.

This year’s event is set for April 18, but the registration deadline is March 8. You can register by visiting the United Way of Fort Smith website here.

Newell said, "If you live in Alma or Van Buren and you want to volunteer there, [you can], it will take you directly to the project page, where we have all the projects listed."
