Bob Stafford wins seat for Fayetteville City Council Ward 1

Stafford received 65.27% of the votes, according to the Washington County's Election Commissioner's unofficial results.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Fayetteville voted Robert "Bob" Stafford as its new city council member of Ward 1 on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

According to the Washington County's Election Commissioner's unofficial results, Stafford received 65.27% of 1,267 votes at the end of Election Day.

Running mates David Phillips received 6.24% of the votes, Katy Sager received 26.76% of the votes, and S Robert Smith received 1.74% of the votes.

Following vote certification next Tuesday, Nov. 21, Stafford could potentially fill the Ward 1 seat that was left vacant by Sonia Harvey.

Stafford told 5NEWS earlier this month that his priority list centers around making "Fayetteville an even better place for everyone." In this list, he named local housing affordability as his top priority, though he also listed equity, the fostering of a creative economy, the homelessness crisis, environmental issues, and infrastructure for non-vehicle transportation as subjects he hopes to tackle.

"What I want to do is I want to activate a South school corridor ... If we build that out, we can fit people in the growth that's coming. We can fit that in there and not disturb our existing neighborhoods," Stafford said.

Stafford called himself a "proud product of Fayetteville's Public Schools," and said that he uses his background in architecture, photography, construction, and fabrication to help run a digital marketing agency.
