LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Monday afternoon, President-elect Donald Trump announced via social media that Arkansas native Warren A. Stephens has now been nominated to serve as the United States Ambassador to the Court of St. James's.
“Warren has always dreamed of serving the United States full time. I am thrilled that he will now have that opportunity as the top Diplomat, representing the USA to one of America’s most cherished and beloved Allies,” Trump posted Monday on his social media network Truth Social.
With this role, Stephens would serve as the US ambassador and representative to the United Kingdom.
The relationship between Stephens and President-elect Trump hasn't always been the smoothest — Stephens acted as a contributor to political groups aimed at boosting Trump's 2024 campaign but also provided funding to conservative groups in 2016 that opposed Trump's winning the GOP nomination at the time.
Despite that, Trump was very complimentary during his appointment of Warren, calling him a "selfless" contributor to the community.
"Warren has built a wonderful financial services firm, while selflessly giving back to his community as a philanthropist," said Donald Trump in a statement.
The Little Rock native has served as President, Chairman, and CEO of Stephens Inc. for nearly four decades.
In response to the nomination, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed her excitement. She shared that they have built a company that has been a driving force for the Little Rock economy and across the world.
"Congratulations to one of Arkansas' finest," she said. "A well deserved honor after a lifetime of public service."
