Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders names new secretary for Department of Corrections

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Thursday that she has selected Lindsay Wallace to serve as the secretary for the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Thursday that she has selected Lindsay Wallace to serve as the secretary for the Arkansas Department of Corrections

Wallace served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Corrections beginning in August of 2020. Before that, she began her career in Arkansas in 2007, working as a policy writer with the Department of Human Services.

Gov. Sanders pointed to Wallace's experience and expressed her confidence in the newly named secretary for the department.

“The safety of all Arkansans is my priority. I have a responsibility as Governor to ensure our Department of Corrections operates under qualified leadership," Gov. Sanders said. "I know that [Wallace] has the experience to lead the Department and will work diligently to expand prison capacity and end the failed policy of catch and early release."

After being named to the position by Gov. Sanders, Wallace referenced her previous work experience and called the opportunity to work as secretary "an honor."

"I am committed to working with all stakeholders, the Governor, the legislature, and Board of Corrections to ensure we fix our corrections system," Wallace said. "I’m glad the Governor has put her trust in me to do so.”

In response to the selection of Wallace, Arkansas Board of Corrections Chairman Benny Magness released the following statement:

“I appreciate Governor Sanders taking the time to meet with me yesterday and for the nomination of Lindsay Wallace as Secretary of the Department of Corrections. The board will take action on the governor’s nomination as soon as we can get all members present for a meeting."
