Voter registration deadline for Arkansans is one month away

Saturday, Sept. 7 marked one month left for Arkansans to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election.

ARKANSAS, USA — The deadline for Arkansans to register to vote for the Nov. 5 election is just one month away and there are some things you need to know if registration is still on your to-do list.

The Oct. 7 deadline is fast approaching, and local election organizers say there's things you need to know.

"You need to make sure that you are a resident of the county that you're registering in. Bring with you some proof of the fact that that's where you live, your utility bill, your driver's license," said Kim Dennison, the Election Coordinator for Benton County.

Registering online is not an option in Arkansas, so you will have to do it in person but there are different ways to do it.

"You can download the form from the Washington County's website, the Secretary of State's website, and fill it out and either mail it or bring it back in person. You can also pick up the forms at your local library, the post office. They're available in a lot of different places," explained Jennifer Price, the Director of Elections for Washington County.

"There is not an online registration process you will need to, you could do it when you go to the DMV, if you've recently gotten your driver's license, they may have asked you if you wanted to register to vote there. If that is the case, please make sure you follow up with that and that you will receive a voter registration card in the mail. If you have not received your voter registration card, call the County Clerk's Office to verify that they received your registration." Dennison said.

But how do you find out if you're already registered?

"A great place to go to find out if you are still registered to vote, to find out if you have the correct address listed, and actually to view sample ballots and to look at where you could early vote or vote on election day is a site called VoterView," Price said.

Price said this election is more than just the Presidential election.

"So there are a lot of things on the ballot, not just the presidential races, but we'll have a US Congress race, a race for state treasurer. And then, of course, your local state representatives, your justice of the peace, your municipal offices. There are several special elections. And then, of course, the state issues as well," Price said.

The number of registered voters continues to climb each day.

"There's over 140,000 people registered to vote, and that number continues to increase. The closer we get to election day, the more voter registrations that we will receive, and that's typical for a general election year, especially in a presidential year," Price said.

If you want to find out about where you can vote and how to register you can go to the VoterView for more information.
