ARKANSAS, USA — The office of Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has responded to criticism after she commented on Vice President Kamala Harris at a campaign event for presidential candidate Donald Trump earlier this week.

On Sept. 17, Sanders moderated a town hall for Trump. While speaking, the governor said "my kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn't have anything keeping her humble."

The comment was taken by some to be a jab at Harris' lack of biological children, which, while true, Harris has two stepchildren with Second Gentlemen Doug Emhoff from his first marriage.

The Democratic Party of Arkansas has since weighed in on the comment.

"Sarah Huckabee Sanders doesn't speak for Arkansas when she attacks women without biological children, intentionally and weirdly mispronounces the Vice President's name, and discredits women who are stepmoms and bonus moms and longing to be moms," the party said on social media. "Shame on you, governor."

On Sept. 19, Sanders' office sent 5NEWS the following statement in relation to her comments at the town hall:

“Vice President Harris, without winning any votes, and after driving up prices by 20% and allowing nearly ten million illegal border crossings, is claiming she alone can solve America’s problems. That’s the lack of humility Governor Sanders was referencing.”
