ARKANSAS, USA — The CDC (Centers for Disease and Control) is warning consumers that an E. Coli outbreak in two states may be linked to walnuts sold in bulk.
On Tuesday, April 30, the CDC reported 12 people had been infected, and seven hospitalized.
The CDC said almost all of them bought organic walnuts. The FDA (Federal Drug Administration) determined that Gibson Farms Inc. supplied the walnuts, and those packages have been recalled.
The packages have expiration dates of May 21, 2025, and June 7, 2025.
The FDA also released a list of stores where those walnuts were sold. Three stores in 5COUNTRY are on the list including:
- Squash Blossom in Van Buren
- Whole Foods Market in Fayetteville
- Ozark Natural Foods grocery store in Fayetteville
The CDC said if you purchased these walnuts, make sure to throw them away and "wash items and surfaces that may have touched the walnuts with hot soapy water or a dishwasher."
If you have E.coli symptoms, the CDC says to contact your doctor.
