Clouds on the day of the eclipse are possible, says the Farmer's Almanac

The almanac said that clouds could be "problematic" for eclipse viewers in Oklahoma and Arkansas.

ARKANSAS, USA — Since 1818, the Farmers' Almanac has been providing weather predictions for the upcoming year.

Now, for this year, the almanac says that cloudy conditions may be expected during the Great American Eclipse on April 8, which Arkansas is primed to experience.

The almanac predicts that conditions will be "Fair for much of TX ... but clouds may be problematic for Oklahoma, and Arkansas."

"For optimal viewing conditions, our recommendation is to head to the Southwest, where the likelihood of clear skies is high. If you live in Texas, consider yourself fortunate, as you may not need to travel far," the almanac said.

The Farmer's Almanac is a yearly publication of miscellaneous knowledge and tips that attempts to predict the weather for an entire year.

Though its accuracy has come under scrutiny from several sources such as the Scientific American, many farmhands swear by the over 200-year-old publication. The Farmers' Almanac's methods for predicting the weather are kept a trade secret.

Many cities across Arkansas have been gearing up for a major influx of people for the astronomical event, with the Arkansas House of Representatives projecting the 2024 total solar eclipse to bring in almost 1.5 million tourists.

In addition to the 1.5 million visitors from outside the state, 500,000 Arkansans are expected to travel to the path of totality.
