FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas vice chancellor and athletics director has been appointed to the College Football Playoff (CFP) Selection Committee, according to the CFP's executive.
Hunter Yurachek is joining the 13-person committee for a three-year term starting this spring, joining coaches, athletic directors, and former football players from all over the United States.
The CFP Selection Committee is responsible for overseeing the playoffs for the NCAA's Division I football teams across the country. For each season, they will pick which 12 teams will go to the playoffs, curate playoff brackets based on each team's season, and rank the top 25 teams of the season.
“It is truly an honor that the CFP Management Committee has appointed me to serve on the selection committee, especially at such a transformational time in the history of college football and the playoff,” Yurachek said.
Yurachek is starting his seventh year with the Razorbacks. He has also been a member of the NCAA Football Oversight Committee since 2021. Before coming to Arkansas, Yurachek served as the athletics director for Coastal Carolina University and the University of Houston.
“As an athletics director at three institutions and the father of three sons who have participated in college football, I am keenly aware of the tremendous passion for college football as well as the opportunities afforded to student-athletes through college football," Yurachek said. "As we all enter this new era, I look forward to working alongside my fellow selection committee members to continue to foster the growth of this wonderful game.”
Six other new members were also appointed, including Washington State's Athletics Director Patrick Chun, Arizona State's former defensive lineman Randall McDaniel, Toledo and Missouri's former head coach Gary Pinkel, Baylor's Athletics Director Mack Rhodes, and Virginia's Athletics Director Carla Williams.
Yurachek is the third Razorback to be appointed to the committee. According to the University of Arkansas, former athletics director Jeff Long was the inaugural chair from 2014 to 2017 and former Razorback athlete and head coach Ken Hatfield served from 2018 to 2020.
