Athlete of the Week - Jordyn Rivera

Cameron High School's Jordyn Rivera becomes just the second person from LeFlore county to go to college to compete in archery.

CAMERON, Okla. — This week, our Athlete of the week arrow pointed West to Oklahoma and a history making archer.

Cameron's Jordyn Rivera became just the second person from LeFlore County to sign with a college for archery. On Wednesday, in front of her friends and family Rivera inked a letter of intent to attend Connors State College, which as it turns out, has been her dream school since eighth grade.

However,  just a year before that is when she decided to give archery a try. A decision that proved to be a good one.

A combination of natural talent and hard work has landed her numerous titles and opportunities that include getting to compete at nationals in late April.

Rivera has far more to her name than that though, she has also finished as LeFlore county champ in 2022 and 2023 and placed third in the grand shoot in Oklahoma last year.

According to her coach Hank Austin, due to her success she is inspiring young archers especially girls to pick up a bow. Her advice to them, "Just have fun, just have fun with it."

Rivera plans to attend school to pursue a career in nursing.
