LA Lakers guard Austin Reaves returns to home state of Arkansas to host basketball camp with brother Spencer

Brothers and professional basketball players Austin and Spencer Reaves are using their time in the off-season to return to Arkansas and give back to youth.

CABOT, Ark. — Not only are Austin and Spencer Reaves brothers, but they're also both professional basketball players and natives of Newark, Arkansas.

However, they don't get to spend much time with each other, with Austin playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and Spencer playing pro ball overseas in Germany. Though when they are back home, they like to give back to the next generation of basketball players.

"When I was growing up, I didn't know anybody that made it where we're from. So just allowing them to see that it's possible and it doesn't even have to be at the biggest stage, it could be overseas like where Spencer's been playing for the past three years," said Austin.

The older Reaves brother, Spencer, played DII basketball at Central Missouri and now plays professional basketball overseas in Germany.

Meanwhile, Austin played at Wichita State and then Oklahoma. Then the LA Lakers picked him up as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

For the past three years, the brothers have been putting on the camp for kids in the area who have shown an interest in basketball.

The camps are held in several Arkansas towns including Jonesboro, Batesville, and Cabot.

"For me, it's like when a kid doesn't know how to do something and then that light finally clicks. It's just fulfilling for us to see." Spencer explained.

Austin just finished his third season with the Lakers and has been enjoying his time in Arkansas with his family.

"It's great you spend so much time on the road when you're able to come home and visit friends and family with my brother playing overseas, this is the only time we get to spend together," Austin described.

The Lakers guard said he also plans on playing lots of golf while he's off. He even has a YouTube channel showcasing his other sport. His channel is called "Hillbilly Bogey."

"My best friend just looked at me one day and was like, 'We should just start filming and document some of it.' and so we did that. So everybody go like and subscribe to Hillbilly Bogey. It's kind of my getaway from basketball. A good opportunity for me to just go kind of let everything else go and focus on golf," said Austin.

Their next camp will be held on Monday and Tuesday at Lyon College in Batesville.
