Athlete of the Week: Kyle Robinson

Robinson won the Arkansas Amateur in Jonesboro over the weekend.

ARKANSAS, USA — Last week, Kyle Robinson was just a normal guy spending his days working for a local metal company and spending time with his wife Caroline and their two dogs.

"I was definitely not expecting the result that I got," said Robinson.

Now he's preparing to head to Minnesota to compete at the U.S. Amateur golf tournament in mid August after winning the Arkansas Amateur over the weekend.

"I think it was more just, 'Hey, let's go out and have some fun and, and see what happens and actually enjoyed going out there,'" said Robinson. "The result took care of itself."

However, the tournament was not even on Robinson's mind until one of his friends persuaded him to go.

"We kind of grew up playing together," said Robinson. "He called me one day and said, 'Hey, we should go over there and play together.' I decided to do it. It's funny because the first round was actually my sixth around of the year to play."

Robinson grew up playing golf all the way into college where he spent his freshman season with the Razorbacks before transferring to South Alabama.

"After college, I just kind of I got a little burnt out," said Robinson. "I didn't really want to. I just wanted to go get a job and see where I ended up."

After working a regular job for three years, he couldn't resist the call of the greens. Now he's putting down the machinery and packing up the seven iron for Minnesota.

"I'm excited," said Robinson. "I've had a few of my friends play in it and they've told me how amazing and world class the event is. I'm really excited for it should be a great experience."

The U.S. Amateur runs from August 12-18 at the Chaska Town Course in Chaska, Minnesota.
